Nasdaq closes lower to end 7-day winning streak
S&P closes below 5,500 record after passing mark for 1st time; Dow jumps almost 300 points
cumhuriyet.com.trThe Nasdaq closed lower Thursday to end a seven-day winning streak.
The tech-heavy index lost 140 points, or 0.79%, to end the day at 17,721.
The S&P 500 fell 13 points, or 0.25%, to finish the session at 5,473. The index climbed above a record 5,500 for the first time earlier in the session.
The Dow, on the other hand, jumped almost 300 points, or 0.77%, to close at 39,134.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 6.7% to 13.34. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2.5% to 4.256%.
The dollar index added 0.34% to 105.61, while the euro lost 0.34% to $1.0705 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in the green, with gold rising 1.3% to $2,358 per ounce and silver gaining 3.2% to $30.68.
Oil prices were up more than 0.8%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.81 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.42.
